So, I’ve been loving the artistic Acai & smoothie bowls I see on Instagram, and it’s inspired me to make some of my own. It’s become a fun weekend hobby (when I have a little extra time to decorate) to create these for breakfast.
During the week, I just go with the smoothie (no toppings) for breakfast on the way to work. Here’s my weekend (or weekday off) morning Acai (or smoothie) bowl recipe.
I use a Magic Bullet for this recipe. The recipe is for one large bowl or two small bowls.
First, place your bowl in the freezer that you are going to use, and prepare your toppings for quick reach.
Add 5-6 ice cubes to the bottom of your blender cup. Add 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or liquid of your choice). Add a scoop of protein powder (I use Vanilla flavored), frozen blueberries, cinnamon, honey, vanilla, your Acai pack if using (I recommend the powder – the frozen ones don’t blend well). Add some banana or frozen banana if you’d like.
Cinnamon is so much better fresh ground. I use my spice grinder often to grind up cinnamon sticks, toasted cumin seeds, kosher salt, etc. (not to mention coffee beans). Fresh ground.. it’s always worth it!
Fill the rest of the way with almond milk, about a half inch from the top. My ingredients change often, but these are the basics — (I always add this Barlean’s Organic Oils Greens, Chocolate Silk Powder too.)
Blend it up and shake it in between blendings if necessary. If it’s too liquidy, add more ice or frozen fruits. It should be thicker than a smoothie so it can support the toppings (for a little while anyway).
When it’s finished and nicely blended, pour carefully into the bowl from the freezer.
Top however you want (nuts, fruits, berries, seeds, coconut shreds, HONEY, etc.), here are some of my favorites I’ve made (I’ve been making them for a little over a month for myself & look forward to a summer FULL of smoothie bowls! – Follow me on Instagram to see ALL my creations) –>
- Place your bowl in the freezer. Add ingredients, in order, to your blender cup. Blender should be filled with your ice, fruit and solid, dry items (powders). Add your liquid until nearly full. Blend well and shake in between blends if needed. Pour into a chilled bowl and decorate with fun toppings.
- *This can be split into two mini bowls (for late night snack or something) or one large breakfast bowl. Top with your choice of nuts, seeds, berries, fruits, coconut, HONEY, dark chocolate chips, granola, cereal, etc. Be creative, that's the fun part!! And take pictures! :)
